The UK is to receive a £1.7bn windfall from debt repayments. This is more than the UK gives in debt relief to Africa per year. So where is this £1.7bn windfall coming from, well Nigeria. So what the UK gives with one hand it takes with the other, nice one Mr Blair. Gordon Brown was one of the main campaigners to abolish third world and specifically African debt, the slogan "Make Poverty History" still rings in our ears as we read that the UK is now to get more back than it puts in, so nice one Mr Brown. How about the UK taking a lead for once and refusing to take the money? Or is this another example of Mr Blair's "Robbing Hood" policy of taking from the poor to feed the rich after his attempt to take money away from the poor countries in Europe and distribute it to the rich? I must say his labour principles seem to be coming to the fore these past few weeks. I can see that he is going to leave us a wonderful lasting legacy, War in Iraq, illiterate children, hospitals that don't work, a rail system that is the envy of Europe - well maybe that should be the laughing stock of Europe and now taking money from countries and people who can ill afford it to fund whatever policies he feels he should leave after his tenure. I wont mention the anti-terrorism bill and the 90 day detention period, it seems that Mr Blair has lost sight of reality.
Is there such a thing as an honest politician? Wouldn't it be nice if for once they came out and said what they really meant. One correspondent called to Mr Blair at the EU summit "Are you going to betray Britain, Mr Blair?" as one can imagine the response was a resounding no. But is he? or does he, like all the other politicians, really believe what he is saying. Are they so committed to their thoughts that what they say is what they think is the truth? Have they lost touch with reality? In some ways one hopes so, in others one is not so sure.
